My Cigar Labels

I’ll give you some reasons why. I bet you didn’t know that custom cigar labels were not only some of the first color advertising, but that they were also one of the earliest forms of what we now know as modern advertising. Some of these early labels were quite stunning, and in fact they have now become some of the most sought-after collectibles you can find.

The quality of design and imagination on the labels was and still is very important for the cigar makers business. Much like today’s advertising mantra that you have only so many seconds to grab your customer, it was no different with cigars, only in a visual and aromatic sense. The customer will be attracted to the label, and be tempted to go further, hefting the cigar, smelling it and possibly purchasing some.

Another interesting fact I didn’t know until recently about cigar labels. One of their first utilitarian uses was during the age when men wore white gloves. The cigar label was a barrier to keep them from staining their gloves!
